CELTEL claims no relationship with Ghana President
CELTEL TELECOM has confirmed that it does not have any business relationship with His Excellency, President John Agyekum Kufuor or his family.
Celtel was reacting to media reports that President Kufuor has interest in the Western Telesystems (Westel) deal because his eldest son is involved with Celtel and could influence the decision of the process of selecting a telecom company to takeover majority shares in Westel.
"Celtel does not have any business relationship with His Excellency, President Kufuor or his family but the most successful pan-African mobile network, offering telecommunications services to more people in Africa than any other network," Mr. Mwambu Wanendeya, Group Marketing and Communications Manager told the Business Chronicle.
Celtel has bidded for the 66.67% shares in Westel, which was acquired by the government of Ghana from A.C.G. Westel Systems last year.
